Hi, Julieta. First off, I was talking to Nellie Furtado last year and she described you as her favorite Latin artist. I thought that was a great compliment!

This Labor Day weekend was full of concerts in Chicago. Nunn on the Run was running all over the city for nonstop coverage of almost every show. The weekend began early with a Scissor Sister interview with Jake Shears. Combining ’80s style dance music and disco kept the abundantly gay crowd jumping throughout the set from the album Night Work. Many didn’t “Feel Like Dancin’” because the place was cooking with no air conditioning. People took the hint and shed their clothes for the encore song “Filthy/Gorgeous.” The after party was a blast at Berlin Nightclub, as the lead singer, Jake Shears, partied with fans throughout the night.
Temperatures cooled on Friday for an outdoor concert with Nelly Furtado. The show was half in Spanish spotlighting the album Mi Plan. Read the Nunn on One interview here. The fans packed the grass with wine, cheese and candles to complete the mood.
After the show, Chris Willis, known from David Guetta’s latest album was on the agenda at Roscoe’s Tavern. People jumped up and down for songs such as “Gettin’ Over You.”
The North Coast Music Festival ran the entire weekend with acts such acts as The Chemical Brothers (read the interview here) and Moby. Nunn on the Run drank backstage with rapper Trugoy the Dove from De La Soul pictured here.
Sunday had two concerts to tackle, the first with Vampire Weekend at the Aragon Ballroom and then Crowded House at the House of Blues. Both shows were packed to the gills and showed a strong following for both bands.
Happy Labor Day!
Nelly Furtado first sang “like a bird” into our hearts back in 2000 with Whoa, Nelly! and teamed up with Timbaland to bring hit after hit single with her album, Loose. Now Nelly is bringing her “Plan” to Ravinia. Manos Al Aire (Robbie Rivera Remix)
Jerry Nunn: Hi, Nelly. What are you up to now?
Nelly Furtado: I am just having a little time off. This is my summer vacation.
JN: I have always wanted to ask you how many languages you speak.
NF: English, Spanish and Portuguese as well, and that’s about it. Some people think I speak Hindi but I actually only know a couple of songs of Hindi. I don’t actually speak it.
JN: Well, that is pretty impressive.
