The public has seen Chastity Bono grow up before their very eyes as the family of Sonny and Cher. Outed as lesbian in the nineties inspired two books Family Outing and The End of Innocence on the subject. Recently discovering that being transgender was the missing piece to the puzzle, Chastity name changed to Chaz and underwent breast removal surgery documenting it on the OWN network.

Comedian and actress Geri Jewell will forever be in our hearts as the first person with a disability to have a regular role on a prime time series with Facts of Life. The cerebral palsy stricken writer has a new memoir I’m Walking as Straight as I Can where she describes barely surviving birth, a bad manager, rising back to fame on the HBO series Deadwood and coming out as a lesbian. Jerry spoke to Geri right before the debut of the new book.

Dan Savage the journalist and newspaper editor can now add activist to his resume. The man with many hats started off writing a sex advice column entitled Savage Love that eventually has led to him becoming an author of several books. The Chicago native has a new book It Gets Better: Coming Out, Overcoming Bullying, and Creating a Life Worth Living.
Jerry Nunn: Hi, Dan. It’s been a while since we talked last. You have now written a book with your husband Terry Miller. How did you get a hold of so many celebrities for the book?
Dan Savage: We put people on it. We had an assistant Ingrid Emerick, who came on the project just to work on the book. Through my agent and talking to people’s publicists we reached out to people. Everyone we asked said they would love to. It wasn’t difficult to get people to jump in and help.

Anne Rice: Great, I just tore into the artificial sweetener for the coffee here. I drink coffee all afternoon trying to stay awake. I don’t know what is the matter with me lately. I keep wanting to sleep and dream, productive, but not as directly productive as staying awake, reading and writing, oh and doing interviews (laughs).

Through the years, Arthur Rankin, Jr., and Jules Bass’ creations have inspired generation after generation. From local theatre troupe Hell in a Handbag’s Rudolph the Red-Hosed Reindeer to Tim Burton’s Nightmare Before Christmas, artists continue to pay homage to these classic collaborations.
